Interim Chancellor Richard Telfer has officially been named the the next chancellor at UW-Whitewater, replacing Martha Saunders. Telfer was confirmed by the UW System Board of Regents.

Telfer is the third UW-Whitewater chancellor in a five-year span. Saunders replaced Jack Miller in 2005 and remained until she was chosen president of her alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, in 2007.

Telfer has been involved with UW-Whitewater since starting as an assistant professor in 1985. He was the associate vice chancellor from 1997-2002 and the provost from 2002-2007 when he became interim chancellor.

Telfer was also a professor and chair for the curriculum and instruction department. He received his doctorate's degree in curriculum and instruction from UW-Madison after receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University.
