Lightning may be cause of house fire

Lighting may be the cause of a house fire that broke out at 1024 Florence St. Friday night in Whitewater according to firefighters. No one was in the house at the time of the fire. Firefighters told renter Kristin Bagniewski, a senior at UW-Whitewater, lightning may have struck the DLK house causing the fire.

Student organizations raise money for India

The situation inspired various student groups including Whitewater Student Government, Residence Hall Association and Student Entertainment Awareness League to collect money to donate to the Rotary India Water Trust, an organization working to expand the water supply for about 1 million people in 650 villages in Rajasthan, India by building water wells.

Campus donates 274 units of blood

The Student Optimist club partnered with the American Red Cross to collect 274 units of blood last week during a blood drive in the University Center. The group surpassed their goal of 210 units and had a large turnout despite nice weather.

St. Louis Rams officials were impressed by UW-Whitewater's facilities after a nearly four-hour tour of campus last week, said Jeff Horton, special assistant and offensive assistant for the Rams. However, the team still hasn't decided on what university to choose for its summer workouts.
