Workers clean up the area between the power plant and Esker Hall

Esker Dining Hall reopened Monday, yet heat and hot water will not be working until at least Thursday, according to a news release from Whitewater's Marketing and Media Relations department.

The dates are dependant on the status of current clean-up efforts and could change if any complications result in repairs.

A standby boiler blew due to a gas explosion in the campus power plant behind Esker Dining Hall Wednesday. A main valve in the overall steam system was subsequently damaged.

Permanent repairs are projected to take a great deal of time but should not affect steam or water after a bypass pipe is installed. The bypass pipe is currently being installed as a temporary fix.

Hot showers are available for students living in the residence halls through Thursday at the Athletic Services Building. Showers will be open today until 8 p.m. Additional hours for next week have not been announced. Students have been asked to take quick showers to conserve hot water.
