UW-Whitewater Warhawks starting quarterback Danny Jones received a $298 fine for disorderly/objectionable conduct last week in the Whitewater Municipal Court. The citation was issued for a Feb. 22 incident involving public urination.

Jones was observed by a police officer after who saw him urinating on the west sidewalk of S. Second Street, according to the police report.

Jones responded to police questioning about his actions and said "I didn't think I was hurting anyone," the police report said. However, Jones also later told police that what he did was "stupid."

Jones is a senior and lost his eligibility to play football after the Warhawks received the national championship in December.

"With student athletes that have no more eligibility, then we meet with these individuals, but there are certain measures that we can no longer control because they are no longer eligible to participate in athletics," Athletic Director Paul Plinske said. "We have to work through it on an individual basis and just express to them the concern that we have for their safety and their well being and for the reputation of the program."

Plinske is aware of the situation but would not share the outcome from the athletic department.

Jones responded to a female Royal Purple reporter's questions about the incident with profane language. He is also listed in the police reports on page seven.

Stay classy, Mr. Jones. Peeing on a sidewalk and then yelling at a reporter. Looks like you've learned well from the pros. Too bad you aren't nearly good enough to take your game to the next level . (Continued…)

It seems peculiar that the Royal Purple would go to such lengths to print an article such as this.

We are, as stated so frequently, students first here and athletes and musicians and teachers, etc, second. (Continued…)
