The Warhawk men's basketball team cruised past the UW-Stout Blue Devils 78-67 Monday night at the Kachel Gymnasium in the opening round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference tournament.
'Hawks forward Kori Vernon posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while guard Myles McKay added 22 points and seven boards.
After a sloppy start, the 'Hawks trailed 11-4 and didn't take a lead until the game's 10th minute. UW-Whitewater clawed its way to a 15-14 advantage and never looked back, taking a 39-26 edge into halftime.
The 'Hawks lead ballooned to 20 points in the second half before a late rally from the Blue Devils cut the gap to eight with just under two minutes left.
However, the 'Hawks held on for the victory, setting up a semifinal game with UW-Superior Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Kachel Gym.
