The UW-Whitewater Warhawks men's basketball team improved their record to 20-4 and put an old loss behind them after they beat the UW-Oshkosh Titans 66-51 at home Wednesday night.

Down by eight during the middle of the first half, the 'Hawks improved the score with a 17-0 run during the end of the first half. Junior guard Myles McKay led the scoring with 27 points for the Warhawks while junior Matt Goodwin, also a guard, added 12 points to the evenings score.

The 'Hawks look ahead to Saturday when they play UW-River Falls at home. Tip off is at 3 p.m. The Warhawks beat the Falcons 88-82 when they played the team in early January.

Having lost to UW-Oshkosh 74-80 in December, McKay attributed the success of the game to the entire team.

"It was just our defensive pressure,"he said. "Once we picked that up, the whole game started to follow course. Once we contained everybody and started picking up on defense, the whole game started going very smooth for us."

Head Coach Pat Miller credited the team with the ability to put pressure the Titan's junior guard Matt Miller and junior forward Dane Seckar-Anderson as the winning strategy. Miller had Goodwin stick with Miller and kept him to 12 points.

"I thought Goodwin was really selfless tonight," Miller said. "Matt Miller was a very big key to the game, he can really get it going. He's a great offensive player and Matt chased him all over the court, denied him and expended a tremendous amount of energy. That really takes away from the offense and I think he was happy to defer to Myles who really had it going tonight."

McKay said his chemistry with Goodwin resulted from playing together for awhile. While Goodwin stayed with Miller the whole night, McKay kept hitting the baskets.

We've been feeding off each other for awhile," McKay said. "When he gets going, I feed him the ball. When I get going, he feeds me the ball. There is no selfishness in between us. We just like playing with each other."

The Titan's Seckar-Anderson received a blow to the cheek by an elbow, but said he would be fine and would not require stitches. Goodwin collided with Warhawk center Josh King and was sent to the training room after the game to assess possible injuries.

"He took a blow to the head, so we'll evaluate him and see how he is," Miller said. "I guess that he would be good to go Saturday."

The UW-Whitewater women's basketball team also added another victory with an 86-78 win against the UW-Oshkosh Titans in Oshkosh.
