Parking continues to be ignored as important issue

As Whitewater's student body increases so does a major problem: parking. Whitewater is known as a commuting school so why is it that wasn't kept in mind when deciding what to spend the school's money on? Tuesday, Feb. 12, I could not find a parking spot anywhere. I understand that with our Wisconsin winter comes snow and with snow comes the dilemma of where to put it all. But if there is snow taking up parking spots, why close more lots? Since the visitor lot was all full, I decided to try Lot 9, just behind it, but to my dismay found it closed for plowing at 10 a.m.
Why wouldn't plowing occur when there were the least amount of students and faculty on campus? Such as before classees start at 7:45 a.m. or while the night classes are in attendance. So then I made my way to the Center for the Arts parking lot and found half of it blocked off so that school busses could park. However, I did not know this until I ventured into the lot and got stuck behind a bus which was blocked from its section by a metal fence. It would be nice to be e-mailed about events such as this that require students to find alternate parking. The only spots that I could find were metered spots and having already paid my $200 a year for a commuting pass I was not going to waste more money on a meter. Something needs to be done about the parking situation at UW-Whitewater. A multiple level parking garage would be ideal, possibly above Lot 14 where most people try to park anyway. I think that it would be most helpful to students and faculty who are just trying to make it to class on time.
