How about $1.50 for more parking?
Letters to the editor
Issue date: 2/20/08 Section: Opinion
There have been many debates about the $1.50 student fees for the lunch program at a local church. People have been shooting down this idea (which perturbs me to no end) for a program that feeds students, but would people take the same tone for a program that will keep us safe and our insurance low?
Every year when it snows, the plows do their thing and get our parking lots clear. Kind of. Many lots, Lot 2 to be exact, are left with 10 feet high mountains of snow, left not at the end of the lots, but at crucial intersections. We read each week in the police reports incidents of accidents in our lots. I was in one, too. That snow mountain is dangerous, and no one does anything about it.
So, how about we take that rejected dollar and a half and put it to something that promotes safety: snow removal. That's roughly $15,000 that some company would be stupid to deny for trucking away snow for four months of the year. I hope the student government is reading this, because if you won't feed students, at least you can try and keep them safe. Shooting down an idea like this, as rough as it is, really shows their true interests in the student body, so proceed with caution. We need a change and we need it soon, before someone is seriously injured.
