Dear Abi,

Every time I go to a party, I end up doing this really cool dance. I put my hands on my head and shake my hips and it's really unique. The only problem is that all my friends make fun of me, but they keep telling me the ladies will like it. Should I keep dancing?

Dear Concerned Cory,

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." The late and great Dr. Seuss's simple solution says it best.

I hate to break it to you, but your question seems to center primarily on other people's opinions of you. Whether you ditch your daring dance because your friends are making fun of you, or you fearlessly flaunt it because the ladies love it, your reasoning is all wrong.

Do you like your dance, Concerned Cory? It seems that this dance is unique, and it distinguishes you from all the other schmucks at the party. If you feel like dancing brings out your true colors, then go for it! Whether or not it pleases the ladies is irrelevant. From my experience, "the ladies" are attracted to confidence and poise. So instead of questioning your prerogative for the dance, show off your charming character. Not only will it make partying more enjoyable for you, but chances are your friends will establish a respect for your security, and the ladies will come running.

So replace your "Concerned Cory" title for something more alluring like "Care-free Cory" or "Charming Cory," and do your dance with a new-found sense of coolness and confidence. Who knows, you might even start a new trend!
