With the win over the Eagles, the 'Hawks improved its record to 5-0 against Division III competition.
The meet against UW-La Crosse was held in honor of breast cancer awareness, and featured fans wearing pink t-shirts, while the entire Warhawk gymnastics team wore pink in support. Additionally, the meet was the final home meet for the Warhawk seniors.
Emotions became visibly apparent, from juniors reflecting on experiences with the seniors to hugs from teammates after a strong performance.
Senior Alison Lewis was in tears after performing in her last home meet.
"The meet meant a lot to the seniors and myself," Lewis said. "I was choked up a lot of times knowing it was the last home meet in my collegiate career. I am happy to know the other girls and [to be] a Warhawk gymnast."
Junior Danielle Crinzi won the uneven bars for the Warhawks with a score of 9.35. Sophomore Justine Weyer placed second on the vault, with a score of 9.525, the fifth best in UW-Whitewater history.
Weyer was relieved the team came together for the seniors and defeated the Eagles.
"I am glad our team defeated UW-La Crosse," Weyer said. "It was amazing to compete with my teammates. Our team is like one big happy family."
Head Coach Jennifer White was speechless in excitement after her team's win.
"Our team was amazing," White said. "We went against a great team in UW-La Crosse, and our team competed in unity from the start with a lot of heart."
Friday's meet was the second consecutive year the Warhawk gymnastics team has held a fundrasier for breast cancer. In total, the meet against UW-La Crosse raised $256.53 for the Susan B. Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Warhawks travel to Minnesota Sunday to face the Winona State Warriors.
