The fundraiser will be at Schoepp's Resort with a $10 entry fee. There will be raffle drawings to win prizes at the event. The grand prize of a new MotorGuide trolling motor will also be given away.
Club President Doug Rosenthal said the club has only been around for three years and needs to raise money to participate in more competitions.
"Since we're sort of a new club, we've been having to [fundraise] to do a lot of cool outings," Rosenthal said. "With this fundraiser, we're trying to raise enough money so we can get to some new outings … places like Lake Michigan."
Students who like to fish are encouraged to attend the fundraiser. The club focuses on bass fishing but is open to any type of fishing. The team usually competes in six qualifying tournaments during the year to make it down to Arkansas for an ESPN-hosted tournament.
"We're working on setting up tournaments against other schools such as Platteville, MSOE, Madison, River Falls, Superior ... everyone that's kind of just starting [fishing] clubs," Rosenthal said. "We haven't been able to compete too much in the state, but it's catching on now."
Rosenthal said the fishing team has grown every year. In a recent tournament in Arkansas, the team placed 12th in the nation. They compete in state tournaments and national tournaments, some which are aired on Fox College Sports Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
In addition to the fundraiser, Rosenthal is looking for students to design a logo for the club.
"We don't have a real cool logo or anything," Rosenthal said. "There's not many art majors in our club, so we want a lot of students to send us their designs and we'll chose the best. It will look good on their resumé if they can be the one chosen."
Students who are interested in joining the club or who want more information about its fundraiser or logo design contest can contact Rosenthal at RosenthaDR31@uww.edu.
The fishing club hosts open team tournaments in the fall and spring and holds meetings on the first Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in room 184 of the Williams Center.
