Apology for Christian soliciting
Letter to the editor
Issue date: 2/13/08 Section: Opinion
I want to comment on the brochures that the Pilgrims Covenant Church spread throughout our campus last week.
As a Christian on this campus, I feel these brochures poorly reflect what we believe and how we are instructed to act. The way that I interpret the Bible tells me I should try to spread the good news of forgiveness that comes through Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.
The other amazing thing about the Bible is it brings freedom to believers because it states we are not the ultimate judge, and we need to leave all judgments up to our Lord. Matthew 7:1-3 sums it up very well: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"
I will admit that I am very flawed and I have many areas in my life that I need to work on before I obtain anything close to perfection. While I in no way believe that any person should live with sin in their life, I know I have no right and no place to condemn anyone.
I hope that you will not consider this or any other incident as a representation of Christians as a whole but will see that normally you get along with Christians on a day-to-day basis, and my hope and prayer is that you will be able to continue doing so.

Zach Kuehne may be sincere, but he is sincerely deceived. How can God offer forgiveness to a person if that person doesn't know that something they are doing is wrong? Preaching the gospel and warning people of certain sins (drunkeness, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, stealing, lying, etc) is NOT unloving, nor is it condemning; it is the love of God reaching out to draw sinners to Jesus, but Jesus says we need to turn from our evil ways. We are to use Good Judgement all of the time acdg to His Word. The idea of Judging others is to do so, without condemnation(s). God promises us a sound mind when we follow his word, and it naturally follows that we are to use it. (Continued…)
