With it being the day before Valentine's Day, the pressure of finding the perfect gift and planning the perfect date is quickly approaching. However, this holiday, students can consider turning to events and activities going on around them to amaze their valentine.

Romance in Whitewater

Tomorrow, the Young Auditorium will be hosting Chapter 6, a cappella vocal band who blends jazz, pop, gospel and rock into their performance. The show is at 7:30 p.m., and ticket prices range from $15-$19.

Those looking to step it up a notch can choose to see the performance as part of a packaged deal. A Valentine's Dream Date is being offered, starting at $99, which includes two tickets to Chapter 6, champagne and a nights stay at Baymont Inn in Whitewater. The package is also being offered with a Bed & Breakfast option at the Hamilton House with a Jacuzzi or fireplace option, starting at $168 a couple. Reservations can be made with Leslie LaMuro at 262-472-5705.

For completely free entertainment, students can perform their own songs at an Open Mic Night in the Down Under, which starts at 8 p.m. Student Entertainment Awareness League intern Chris Becker thinks the night is perfect for anyone.

"This is an opportunity for people to come as a couple, or as a single male or female looking to serenade the crowd with their talent," Becker said. "This can include anything from singing, playing a musical instrument, reading poetry, or anything else where someone can present some type of entertainment."

Love outside of town

Instead of the traditional dinner in Whitewater, couples can choose to travel around 20-25 minutes to Johnson's Creek for a romantic dinner for two at Highway Harry's Steakhouse. This is a favorite for senior Alex Parker and his girlfriend, Kristian Brighton.

"It's a nice place to go to get out of the normal area food, enjoy a bottle of wine and have a night for just us two."

Spending the night in Madison or Milwaukee could also be an option for couples. The Majestic Theater in Madison will present Puddle of Mudd tomorrow night. The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets can be purchased online. Traveling southeast to Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Theater will present "The Lion King" tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

Gifts from the heart

Along with the perfect date, a perfect gift may be necessary as well. If tight on a budget, students can consider making a quick, yet meaningful gift in the day they have left.

A gift perfect for males or females is a tie-blanket. Simply made of two pieces of fleece tied together, it's an easy and inexpensive present. Themed fleece for the holiday is available, or a great alternative would be to buy your sweetie's favorite team logo fleece and make them a blanket they will cherish forever.

For a tasty present, try making your valentine an artsy candy jar. Start by purchasing a glass candy jar and fill it with their favorite candy. Next, make the jar unique by decorating it specifically for them using different paints and colors. The internet is a great way to find different ideas.
