The Warhawk men's basketball team held onto first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Saturday night as they cruised past UW-Eau Claire, winning 85-65.

UW-Whitewater junior forward Kori Vernon continued his string of strong performances, leading the 'Hawks with 21 points. Sophomore guard Kevin Koski sank 15 points while junior guard Matt Goodwin continued to be a scoring threat, adding on 12 points in the game. Goodwin also led the 'Hawks with four assists and tied Vernon for the team lead of seven rebounds.

UW-Eau Claire senior center Dan Beyer was the Blugolds leading scorer with 21 points and also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman guard Ryan Shea scored 11 points, while sophomore Geoff Probst had 10.

With six regular season games left, the last two being played in Whitewater, the 'Hawks are hoping for a quick recovery from one of its main threats, All-WIAC forward Rob Perry.

On Jan. 16, when Perry injured his foot in practice, the team was left wondering if he would return for the rest of the season. For Perry, the healing process is just a matter of time.

"I get my cast off [today], then [the doctors] are going to do another x-ray, and then [the doctors] are going to put it in a boot … We're just going to go from there," Perry said. "So once I get my cast off, depending on how fast I heal, I could be back, I could not be back. It just depends how my body heals."

Perry is optimistic in his return for the playoffs.

"I want to be back after I get this cast off [and] maybe [it will be] like a week and a half or two weeks after that. So by the next home game I should be back. I'm hoping to be back," Perry said.

Tonight the 'Hawks will travel to Decorah, Iowa, for a non-conference match-up against Luther College at 7 p.m.
