Valentine's Day typically brings one of two types of feelings to most college students: warm, fuzzy feelings of admiration or cynical, bitter disdain for the "Hallmark holiday." However, many share the same dread of the cost. A $4.99 folded, singing piece of paper and $70 vase of a dozen roses? Please, not this year. There are plenty of other festivities for on-the-budget college students. Junior, Julie Pruess offered helpful advice for couples looking to save some money.

"Typically, I go to a movie," Pruess said. "When you're on a budget they have a student discount or the heart shaped pizza at Rocky's is always good."

The student price for a movie at The Theatres of Whitewater is $5.50. And, as always, Purple Points are accepted at the theatre.

Rocky Rococo's also accepts Purple Points and will be selling heart-shaped pizzas. A cheese pizza will be $11.59 with an additional cost of $1.26 per extra topping.

For diners not up for pizza Cozumel Restaurant has several dinners for two. Manager Jose Lopez estimated a Mexican dinner for two to be between $12 and $20 depending on the customers taste. And, what about the valentine with a sweet tooth?

Culvers will be offering a chocolate raspberry truffle cake with heart shapes for $8.99. They will also discount 50 cents off a banana split for their "Split a split with your sweetheart" promotion. Both Culvers and Cozumel accept Purple Points.

Of course, since Valentine's Day is not only about eating ,there are plenty of low-cost gift options in the area. For the more artistic side freshman Alison Spankowski, has a suggestion.

"I get crafty and make cards, like cutesy girl stuff" she said.

Freshman Kyle Fraser has done something along the same lines in the past.

"I got her … a homemade card with a poem and I took her out to dinner" he said.

If you are feeling even more crafty and have a higher budget, sophomore, Alyssa Killen offered an option to keep valentines cozy year round.
