UW-Whitewater junior Megan Schmidt pulls up for a contested jump shot in the team's 93-72 win over UW-Stout Saturday afternoon at the Williams Center.

The Warhawk women's basketball team defeated the UW-Stout Blue Devils, 93-72, on a record setting night to improve to 15-1 on the season.

The 'Hawks tied the school record for most 3-point shots made, shooting 11-16 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Kelsey Hendrickson set the individual record for 3-point shooting percentage, hitting 4-5 in the game.

"All of our players are capable of putting up numbers in any given game," Head Coach Keri Carollo said. "I was just really impressed with our intensity and focus."

UW-Stout lead the Warhawks for much of the first half. The Blue Devils' tough defense held UW-Whitewater to 40 percent shooting, but the 'Hawks connected on 7-9 attempts from the three-point line and rallied to take a 44-40 halftime lead.

"We didn't expect to give up 40 points in the first half," Carollo said. "We stayed with our same rotations and changed up our defense and our press. We weren't pressing well in the first half and we didn't have the tenacity we needed."

In the second half, the Warhawks stiffened on defense, and didn't allow UW-Stout to gain the lead. The tougher defense allowed the 'Hawks to lead by more than 10 points for most of the second half.

Hendrickson led the Warhawks with 21 points and five assists. Junior Tiffany Morton scored 16 points, and senior Lindsey Buechner scored 12 while grabbing 10 rebounds. Additionally, UW-Whitewater set a season high with eight blocked shots against the Blue Devils.

The Warhawks will go on the road this week against conference opponents UW-Platteville and UW-Superior. Both teams will pose some problems for the 'Hawks, who are trying to defend its No. 4 ranking in the d3hoops.com poll.

"Platteville's a very good 3-point shooting team [and] they will shoot about 30 threes a game. It will be a tough match-up for us," Carollo said. "Superior is a long road trip and it's always hard to go up there and stay motivated."

The 'Hawks face the UW-Platteville Pioneers in Platteville tonight, and then travel to UW-Superior on Saturday.
