A pair of freshmen helped UW-Whitewater's gymnastic team set a school total point record in its 184.475-181.850 win over UW-Stout Friday night at the Williams Center.

Justine Weyer set a Warhawk record in the vault competition with her first-place score of 9.70. She also finished first in the uneven bars and floor exercise competitions, while teammate Ginelle Galub won the balance beam event with a 9.55, the fourth best score in school history.

"We broke records, so it was definitely exciting," Galub said. "We were a little sloppy in our events, but [it was] nothing we couldn't clean up."

The freshmen duo took first in all four events, but UW-Stout's Meghan Hargens won the all-around title, totaling 37.325, with Weyer coming in second at 37.25.

The Warhawks' total score of 184.475 shattered the team's previous mark of 182.975, set at last season's nationals. Head Coach Jennifer White was surprised of her team's performance.

"After our warm-ups, I wasn't expecting us to do as well as we did," White said. "They really pulled it together before the meet. They were really fired up and stayed together as a group."

The 'Hawks broke records with strong finishes in each event. The team's score of 46.7 in the vault and 45.85 in the balance beam both placed second in the record book, while scores of 45.175 and 46.75 in the uneven bars and floor exercise, respectively, were good enough for third all-time.

"We went from event to event," White said. "We knew we were down a little bit, but after beam we were right where we thought we would be."

The Warhawks hope to have another team effort as it will travel to face UW-Oshkosh Friday at 7 p.m.

"We all won this meet,"?White said. "The theme this year is 'the power of one' and I think the girls realized that we all need to stick behind each other in order for that to happen."
