With the reopening of the University Center, Chartwells, the campus food service provider, has hired an additional 100 students.
"It will be great to have students back in the building," Ann Wick, Chartwells marketing director, said.
Wick said she is excited about the reopening of the building because it is a great opportunity for students who want an on-campus job, she said.
The UW-Whitewater campus is a large employer of students. For the 2007 fiscal year 1,907 students earned $639,558 in work study.
"UW-Whitewater does not allow non-Whitewater students to work; you must be a UW student to work on campus," Connie Murray, associate director of financial aid, said.
New positions in the UC available through Chartwells include cashier, food prep and student managers.
"In a normal fall, depending on how many students graduated, it is not uncommon to hire 250 students," Wick said. "Students are the backbone of what we do."
Chartwells also provides food to Esker, Drumlin Market and Prairie Street Market.
