Morton shines in Coaches vs. Cancer Tourney

Junior Tiffany Morton scored 21 points in each game against the Millikin Big Blue and the Maryville Saints, leading the Warhawks to a 2-0 start.
"She did a great job inside for us," said Head Coach Keri Carollo. "It elevated the play for everyone else."
Morton, who made the all-tournament team, also led the team with 11 rebounds in the Warhawks' 92-46 blowout over the No. 13 Big Blue. They also defeated the Saints, 93-74, to win the Millikin Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
"Our defensive pressure and defensive intensity was big for us," Carollo said. "Our defense allowed us to get some easy opportunities on the offensive side."
Sophomore Kelsey Hendrickson, who also made the all-tournament team, and senior Trisha Thill helped against Millikin as well. Hendrickson was 6-for-7 from the field with 14 points and six steals. Thill finished with five steals and nine points. She also went 3-for-3 from outside the arc.
"The full-court press gave us an easy opportunity to score, and score quickly," Carollo said. "It is really demoralizing for our opponent."
Senior Lindsey Buechner and sophomore guard Heidi Sonntag also scored nine points each against Millikin. Buechner led the 'Hawks with seven total rebounds in the first game.
The 'Hawks continued their intense play in the game versus Maryville. Nicole Bundy went 7-for-9 from the line to finish with 15 points. Meghan Schmidt and Hendrickson also scored well, contributing 12 and 11 points, respectively.
"It has been our goal for the pre-season to have a balanced attack," Carollo said, "We have had some significant play off the bench. It is nice to turn to the bench and get a scoring punch if we need it."
The 'Hawks continue its season against the Cornell Rams on Sunday. The game will be held in the Kachel Gym at 3 p.m.
