This is the second competition at Wall Crawlers. Gelletta had hoped for a bigger turn out, but he was pleased with how the competition turned out.
Grosshiem and Weir are also employed at Wall Crawlers, which is open Monday through Friday from 4-10 p.m., Saturday from 12-8 p.m., and Sunday from 12-6 p.m.
For students, a Wall Crawlers monthly membership is $35, and an academic year membership is $250. UW-Whitewater climbing club members have a reduced price for memberships.
Crawlers recently started accepting Purple Points. For beginners, instruction is free, whereas in most gyms it costs approximately $25. They also have a few daily specials. Tuesday is college night, where college students get 25 percent off. Females get 50 percent off on Friday nights for ladies' night. Sunday is family day, where a family of four is $35.
"We get everyone from kids to adults, [ages] 5-50," Grosshiem said. "We do get a couple of grandmas, too."
Some people may be hesitant about rock climbing because of a safety concern, but Grosshiem doesn't see it as a big risk.
"You're more likely to get hurt driving here than while actually climbing," Grosshiem said.
