The wine tasting offered a variety of cheeses, fruit and crackers to sample.

Four tables were packed with eager wine connoisseurs-to-be at Student Entertainment Awareness League's wine tasting event on Friday night.

Jim Allen, catering director for Chartwells, taught students the basics of wine from how to order bottles in a restaurant, to sipping etiquette, to what types of wines go with what meals.

The evening began with samples of white, lighter-bodied wines, such as Riesling and ended with the dry, complex Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

SEAL provided a variety of cheeses, fruit and crackers to cleanse the palette between tasting.

Fourteen wines were sampled with flavors ranging from vanilla, pear and citrus to the more unique tastes, such as tar, freshly cut grass and black pepper.
