Quarterback Danny Jones rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, while defensive end Ryan Ogrizovich returned a fumble 15 yards for a score to lead the Warhawk football team to a 34-14 win over the Capital University Crusaders in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III playoffs.
"[Capital's] a good football team," Leipold said. "Looking at the [pairings], we knew we had drawn an excellent football team … It was a battle."
"I thought the real difference-maker today was Jones," said Collins. "He put some moves on some of our best football players and we couldn't tackle him … He did a heck of a job."
The win was the 'Hawks ninth postseason victory in the past three seasons, and allowed the team to advance on to a second-round matchup with North Central College (Ill.).
The Cardinals got a 19-yard touchdown catch from freshman wide receiver Aaron Fanthorpe as time expired to squeak past Franklin College (Ind.), 44-42.
UW-Whitewater hosts North Central College Saturday at noon in Perkins Stadium.
