I am writing to express UW-Whitewater Police Services thanks and my personal gratitude to the Students Against Sexual Violence organization. Their recent donation to our SAFEwalk program is greatly appreciated. Your efforts to raise the awareness and deter the occurrence of sexual violence on our campus does not go unnoticed.
We are all only as safe and secure as we choose to be; if we overlook or refuse to become involved in a problem we only serve to further perpetuate the issue. By taking steps to help, even in the smallest of ways, we improve the quality of life for all, we reduce the fear of crime and prevent negative incidents from happening.
If you wish to become involved, like these students have, you don't have to join a group, utilize the avenues available to you already. Call 911 when you see something taking place, report it anonymously if you want to, but don't let the situation go unaddressed. Crime Stoppers, (262) 723-2677, will accept your anonymous information and issue a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest in certain circumstances.
Thanks again to Students Against Sexual Violence. I hope SASV's leadership and example can inspire all of us to be more involved in our own safety. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or ideas you may have on how to improve our department's services for you or to just say hi.
