The Lambda Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will host the second annual Hair and Nail Showcase on Nov. 15 at Jitter's Café at 9 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from a current Lambda Xi member for $3. The general public can purchase tickets at the door for $5. Members of Greek organizations on campus can purchase tickets at the door for $3.

"It's our biggest fundraiser of the semester," Suncerrae Perry, senior and vice president of the Lambda Xi chapter, said.

This will be the second year of the event, and Perry hopes it will be as successful as last year.

"I wish we had taken a count last year, but there was about 70-75 people," Perry said.

Smith said they created the event so other students would be able to show off their skills.

"I do nails, and Suncerrae does nails and make-up, and so we thought we should get other people on campus to show off their skills," Smith said. "It was something we pulled out of the sky, ran with it and it worked."

The beauty show will feature three categories, including hair, nails and make-up, and models, which will be chosen before the event to display the different aspects of the show.

"Sometimes it gets kind of wild and crazy with the hair and nails, and sometimes it's just everyday things," Smith said.

The show will also include a performance from a group called DC3, which consists of three UW-Whitewater students: Ashley Moore, Monique Storks and Jasmine Patterson.

"They do their own rendition of Destiny's Child," Perry said. "They do a really good job, and we're really excited."

The designers for the show are not professionals, and they are not allowing any professionals to enter the show.

Smith said the models and designers have to be at least half time students, and they're looking for people who are open and willing to work with the designers

Any student wanting to showcase their skills at the beauty show, or any student wanting to be a model for the beauty show, can contact either Perry or Smith.

"We're trying to keep this as an annual event, and it can only get better in the future," Smith said.
