"In high school it is more about the depth of the team," Head Coach Joel Rollings said. "In college it is more about the quality of the No. 1 spot. If you win your relays, then you are probably going to win the meet."
The 'Hawks were led by Courtney Jenkins, who won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.49. Jenkins, a freshman, wants to break the school record in the event, which is 1:01.32, set by Sue Schroeder in 1987. She also wants to place at the top of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate AthelticConference.
Jenkins says the length of the college swimming season is going to be a big challenge.
"It is going to be such a long season," Jenkins said. "In high school you would peak about halfway through the season. It is going to take a lot longer to get in shape."
Another top performance was turned in by senior Danyelle Jenkins, who took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.42. Additionally, freshman diver Katelyn Britt took second place in the one-meter diving competition, and third in the three-meter diving competition.
"I still have a lot of work to do, but I was happy for the most part [with my dives]," Britt said. "I plan on adding a lot more difficulty to my dives during the season."
"Katelyn Britt is one of our leading competitors," Assistant Diving Coach Cassie Kubly said. "I have really high hopes for her this season. I want to break up the conference. Both UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire have a strong women's diving team. I want to try and get one of our divers in there."
Second-place finishes were claimed by Casey Alf in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle, Shannon George in the 50-yard freestyle and Jenny Ogle in the 100-yard breaststroke.
"I would like to see the women move forward in the conference," Head Coach Rollings said. "We were fourth last year. I think we can contend for second or third in the conference this year."
The Warhawks travel to Chicago, Ill., this weekend for the University of Chicago Invitational, which begins Friday at 6 p.m.
