Homecoming court narrowed to five

The Homecoming Court and top five king and queen candidates were announced Monday night at the Homecoming Dance.

The top five couples are Sean O'Brien and Carolyn Schweitzer for American Marketing Association, Melissa Rahlf and Ryan Boesch for Association for the Education of Young Children, Allison Rygh and Derek Henze for Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization, Robert Pruess and Stacy Kreuziger for Impact, and Pedro Veloz                                                                                        and Rubith Garcia for Latinos Unidos .

House party raid yields 87 citations

A total of 87 people were cited Friday when the Whitewater Police Department, with assistance from the UW-Whitewater Campus Police Department, interrupted a large-scale house party at 157 N. Prairie St. The police department issued 81 citations for underage drinking.

State rejects former dean's discrimination complaint

A discrimination complaint against the university filed by former Dean of the College of Letters and Sciences Howard Ross was dismissed last week by the State Department of Workforce Development Equal Rights Division (DWD). The department rejected the complaint, stating there was "no probable cause to believe the university violated the Wisconsin Fair Employment Law.

Struggles remain for Katrina survivor

Kai Drobish, a Hurricane Katrina survivor, visited campus last week to thank students and city officials for their support. The hurricane caused immense property damage, personal injury and death throughout the Gulf Coast in August 2005.

Drobish, an artist from Bay St. Louis, Miss., shared her emotional experience as a resident in 'hurricane central' with a journalism class, the campus Optimist Club and at a common council meeting in Irvin Young Auditorium.

On campus polling station approved

UW-Whitewater students who live in certain on-campus buildings will no longer have to travel downtown to the city armory and wait in long lines to vote on election days.

The Whitewater Common Council voted 4-1 last week to locate a polling place in District 2 to the Hamilton Center, beginning with the February Primary Presidential election.

Campus copes with Thornton death

A memorial service for Thornton is tomorrow from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home at 5203 Monona Drive, Monona, Wis.
