Hyped-up shoppers prepare their game plan for the biggest

It is the day made famous by door-busters, deals and downright chaos. Black Friday, whether looked at as a joyous day of deals and steals, or a headache wrapped in a bow, has been a part of the American lifestyle since the late 1960s. The famous day-after-Thanksgiving starts the holiday shopping season with a bang, and on occasion, an injury or two.

Thanksgiving, a day to indulge

Thanksgiving is synonymous with family, football and a delicious meal of various foods. It is also the holiday where many people put their diets on the backburner in favor of calorie-laden foods like mashed potatoes, stuffing, cream corn and pumpkin pie. "There's only a couple day in the year you get to go all out," freshmen Jack Rivera said.

Students preparing to become educators after college are finding valuable hands-on experience in elementary and middle school classrooms thanks, in part, to America Reads. The Student Entertainment Awareness League has promoted reading and comprehension in the Whitewater School District.
