The No. 1-ranked team in the country came to UW-Whitewater last Friday and left with its first loss of the season. A thundering crowd of 742 saw the volleyball team defeat UW-Oshkosh, 3-1, (25-18, 28-26, 21-25, 28-26). The win was exactly one month after the team's, 3-1, road loss at UW-Oshkosh.
Jordan Wells did not waver when he made this statement: "I guarantee they will know when we come off the football field that we're the better football team," the senior wide receiver said. Wells is, of course, referring to Saturday's 1 p.m. showdown at UW-Stevens Point (5-2, 4-0 WIAC) - who is tied with UW-Whitewater (7-0, 4-0) atop the conference standings with only three weeks left in the regular season.

In fact, the senior did not want to give up any of the three sports she played in high school. Over her athletic career at UW-Whitewater she has competed in tennis, basketball and most recently soccer.
Martin Grasswick is making a name for himself in the paintball world. Grasswick, the president of UW-Whitewater's club paintball team, the reigning national champions, played a big part at the 2009 PSP World Cup a few weeks ago at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
The women's tennis team captured its third straight WIAC championship after winning the WIAC tournament last weekend at Nielson Tennis Stadium in Madison. The Warhawks finished the fall season with 21 total points to beat out runner-up UW-La Crosse, which finished with 18 points.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams anticipate banner seasons after their stellar 2008-09 campaigns. Both squads got off to a good start last Friday night with convincing wins against Carroll University. The men won, 119-79, while the women cruised to a victory, 132-84.
It's been more than a month since their last home meet, but the cross country teams end the season back at UW-Whitewater for the biggest event of the year. The men's and women's teams host the WIAC championship Saturday welcoming eight other schools. The women run at noon while the men race at 1 p.
Sophomore Joseph Westby connected on his field goal and won $1,000 at halftime of Saturday's football game during the pass, punt and kick competition. In order to win, participants must go the distance of the field by first passing from the back of the south end zone.
The Warhawks looked to improve their conference resumé going into next week's WIAC tournament after traveling to UW-Stout Saturday. Mission accomplished. The 'Hawks defeated the Blue Devils, 2-1, after losing a tough match to Principia College on Senior Day last week, 3-2.
