As the school year comes to a close, the Royal Purple would like to take time to reflect upon the major events of the 2008-09 school year at UW-Whitewater. Groundbreaking changes and achievements occurred during the past two semesters that students and staff should be proud to be a part of. But among the gleefulness of these events were some major tragedies that are not to be forgotten. Here's a short recap of the school year's major events.
I'll never top the last column I wrote, so I'm just going to fill this with random observations.
When I was a freshman, the world was mine for the drinking. I?was not of the legal age, but let's be honest, the numerous parties off campus don't discriminate as long as you put forth the $5 for a cup.
As a lifelong sports fan, I've grown accustomed to watching the clock. I was either waiting for it to hit zero or hoping my team could come back before it expired.
Like many other students, I commute. This was my first semester driving to class and an enjoyable, money-saving one at that. Of course, there are also negative factors commuters have to deal with like ice and snow in the winters, car trouble, gas expenses, and the most frustrating of all: campus parking. With lot 3 becoming the construction site of the new dormitory, parking on campus has become a labyrinth of regulations.
I never imagined when I became a staff writer my freshman year this newspaper would eventually become one of the biggest parts of my life and one of my most important experiences.
