Council delays action on Main Street

The Whitewater Common Council postponed taking additional safety measures at the Whiton and Main intersection.

The council has taken up the issue three times since former student, Mike Chaloupka, was seriously injured when struck by a car crossing the Whiton Street crosswalk. He died several days after.

The Whitewater Common Council took action Tuesday to pursue a traffic analysis along Main Street to help find an effective solution for pedestrian safety. "One of my overwhelming feelings is we have not gone about this whole process in a proper fashion," Councilmember Lynn Binnie said.

Minor repairs neglected for campus updates

Although much of the construction on the UW-Whitewater campus is on schedule, other smaller repairs sit in stagnation.

The middle door to the entrance of Heide Hall had been roped off in caution tape since last semester and the stairs between McGraw Hall and the Andersen Library is in such disrepair that it too has been roped off for quite a while.
