UW-Whitewater wheelchair basketball player Matt Scott will appear in Nike's "No Excuses" television commercial, which will debut Dec. 31.
The fifth-ranked Warhawk women's basketball team faced its stiffest competition of the year Dec. 31 but came out victorious. UW-Whitewater defeated the Division III No.1 team, Mary Washington University, 70-67 at the Surf City Classic in Irvine, Calif. The 'Hawks were up most of the game and led by as many as 21 points with 5:45 left to play.
Senior diver Kyle Boers made history at the Williams Center while leading the men's swimming and diving team to victories over Beloit College and Coe College (Iowa) in a double-dual meet Saturday.
Derek Stanley, wide receiver for the Warhawks from 2003-2006 and current kick returner for the St. Louis Rams, played in his first National Football League game Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Stanley had six returns for 120 yards. He also had a fumble that was recovered by a teammate.
The 85 points given up by the Warhawks was the highest total all season, and the third straight game in which they gave up at least 77 points.
Forcing 58 combined turnovers, the 'Hawks cruised past UW-Oshkosh and UW-Superior last week, winning by scores of 82-43 and 106-59, respectively.
The women's swimming and diving team had a dominating performance during the weekend by annihilating the Beloit College Buccaneers and the Coe College Kohawks Saturday afternoon in the Williams Center pool.
The Warhawk wrestling team had a tough week, placing 10th out of 15 teams at the Dick Walker Invitational Saturday. The team was without top performers Austin Bautista and Tom Trieloff, both of whom were hurt just days before the invitational.
A third opportunity to win a national title was the goal set forth by 23 Warhawk seniors in 2007, a group eager to avenge the losses of the previous two seasons in Division III football's biggest game.
