The Warhawks celebrate one of their 10 goals against the University of St. Thomas on Saturday. The team travels to Wheaton College Friday at 7 p.m.

The Warhawk men's soccer team will go head-to-head with the 25th-ranked Wheaton Thunder in Wheaton, Ill., Friday at 7 p.m., and head coach Greg Henschel knows the team could be in for a battle.

"That's going to be a freakin' hard game," Henschel said. "It's homecoming night, Friday night at Wheaton, and the reality is, I have given our men's team one of the toughest schedules in the country this year. There is no doubt in my mind."

The 'Hawks (5-3-2) are coming off their most dominant performance of the season, Saturday's 10-1 win over the University of St. Thomas Tommies. The 21st-ranked Tommies came into the game boasting an 8-2 record.

'Hawks senior forward Kyle Bast set the tone offensively just seven minutes into play when he headed a rebound past the Tommies' goalkeeper Alexander Benson to give UW-Whitewater a 1-0 lead.

An explosive offensive performance put the 'Hawks up 6-0 after the first half.

"We were communicating well, and things finally all came together," Bast said. "Nothing is really surprising with this team, and we can go as far as we want to."

With reserves in the game the 'Hawks managed another four goals in the second half. A goal by the Tommies' Alex Daley was the only blemish on the 'Hawks afternoon.

"It's a good statement game and a stepping stone," Bast said. "We're about halfway through the schedule, so we just want to keep going strong out there."

The win was certainly a team effort as eight different 'Hawks scored goals in the game. 'Hawks sophomore Luke Buchholz led the team with three goals despite battling an eye injury which kept him out of the first half.

"The team performed to the level it's capable of," Henschel said. "Nothing surprises me with the team at this point, and I have no expectations as to what this team is going to do."
