Combining fluid movement, partner dancing, and flips, the Parsons Dance Company will be another dynamic performance for the Young Auditorium.

The show will be performed on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The founder of Parsons Dance Company is David Parsons. Parsons is a performer, choreographer, teacher, director and producer of dance. Parsons' most famous piece is "Caught," a segment where a solo dancer leaps and jumps through mid-air with flashing lights that look as if the dancer is defying gravity. Another interesting piece is "Nascimento Novo," which demonstrates a sense of community where all 10 dancers take part in combining hip-hop, ballet, contemporary dance and fluid movements.

"[Parsons Dance Company] came [to the university] when I was a student and they were phenomenal," Marketing specialist for the Young Auditorium Leslie LaMuro said. "There's humor in the choreography, it's not so serious with a storyline or anything like that."

There aren't many big companies that come to small cities like Whitewater, therefore, LaMuro encourages every student to attend the show regardless of the fact the event can be used for the class, World of the Arts. This is a way to learn something new while "watching fine athletes at their best," LaMuro said.

Cost for the general public prices are $29 for front seats, $26 for middle seats, and $19 for balcony seats. UW-W students prices range from $9.50 to $15.50.

"With dance, sitting in the last row isn't that horrible," LaMuro said. "You get to see a lot more of the stage. Mid range [seats] are also great for seeing it all. Front row seats are only if you like to see the sweat beads."

While some students believe that watching a bunch of people dancing around in tights are a waste of time, there are some students that are thrilled to view an art form as beautiful as dance.

Many students are anxious for the performance. Freshmen Melanie Fuller and Sarah Thomas are excited to learn more about the dance company and are planning on attending the performance.

As respect to the performers and other spectators, the Young Auditorium asks that all guests arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the curtains opening to avoid any possible distractions.
