Local ethnic restaurants offer an alternative for students if they have a craving for something different. Sometimes students need a break from the burger and fries routine and therefore utilize their ethnic options when going out to eat.

Whitewater has several ethnic restaurants including China House, Cozumel, Karina's Mexican Restaurant, Tokyo's and Café Pueblo Pedro. Each restaurant has its own style and taste to make students' mouths water.

Junior Alicia Hermanson enjoys dining out in Whitewater, especially at China House.

"[China House] has a wide variety of good food, and it's all priced pretty reasonably for the amount of food you get," Hermanson said.

Hermanson's favorite meal is Chicken Lo Mein, but she appreciates the variety of Chinese dishes on the menu as well.

Freshman Kerri McArthur hasn't gone out to eat very often during her first semester, but has been to a few local ethnic restaurants. Despite the difference in cost, Cozumel is her favorite out of the ethnic restaurants Whitewater has to offer, McArthur said.

"Some of the food is reasonably priced, but I wouldn't say all of it is," McArthur said.

McArthur enjoys Cozumel's overall environment and the taste of the food, especially their nachos. Aside from the quality of their food, Cozumel has a bright, hand-carved and painted seating area and has features a live Mariachi band once a week.

The off-campus use of Purple Points has been escalating with the help of more restaurants accepting Purple Points as a payment option, and Cozumel has become more appealing to students since it started accepting them.

Karina's Mexican Restaurant is another location with a selection of authentic Mexican food on the menu. The restaurant has lunch specials available Saturday through Wednesday where it also offers a vegetarian menu.

Tokyo's is a different ethnic option for students while dining out. Their menu contains a variety of Japanese cuisines including sushi, sashimi, and a buffet.

Café Pueblo Pedro may not have sushi on their menu, but it does include a combination of various ethnic foods and other choices. The restaurant includes gyros, burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, tacos, wings and burritos.

Whether they are looking for the best value or the best taste, students are always interested in something new to eat, which is what the local ethnic restaurants make available.
