"If I am totally honest it all started with a dream, my dream of being Bono." This dream of Daniel "Danno" Burrow, lead singer of the U2 tribute band, Elevation, sparked the birth of the dynamic group.` "We're not just a band," Burrow said. "We're a show and we're trying to re-create the feeling of a real U2 concert. We want to make it as authentic as possible."
Elevation's first big gig was in 2001 at Joe's Bar in Chicago attracting media attention and a great crowd, according to the group's official Web site, www.tribute2u2.com. Burrow's energy helped book Elevation's shows in several well-established locations including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, the Grand Cayman Islands, and most recently, Ireland.
Equipped with pseudo-U2 costumes and instruments, Burrow, guitarist Dylan Jones, drummer Dave Ambrose, and bassist Chris Lambrou do their best to make Elevation shows the equivalent of the true U2 experience.
"It'll definitely be a good show," Burrow said. "There'll be something for everyone, some old stuff, some new stuff. Most people don't realize how many U2 songs they know until they hear us play."
Burrow's nickname "Danno" is only the start of his character. Not only does he look and sound like Bono, the lead singer of U2, Burrow takes pride in his ability to easily imitate Bono's stage personality.
"I get really into my character during shows," Burrow said. "I'll do anything Bono-ish-climbing on stuff, dancing with people, bringing kids on stage-and it all happens naturally which makes it better."
Whitewater citizens and students will be able to enjoy Elevation's electric performance Saturday at 8 p.m. at Cravath Lakefront Park in Downtown Whitewater during Taste of Whitewater.
Being the second year Taste of Whitewater is taking place, Committee Chair Shane Brossard, a fifth-year senior, is looking forward to having this Chicago-native band playing in Whitewater.
"They've played at larger venues and have been hired by Navy Pier so it will be exciting to have them performing at our small town festival," Brossard said.
Although there will be activities, food, and beverages for people of all ages, special care was taken in deciding which major attraction to hire.
"We chose to hire Elevation because they seem to have a good draw to college-aged students and middle-aged adults, the crowd we expect to see at Taste of Whitewater," Brossard said.
