Roy Nosek is a disgusting individual. Time and time again he fights everything that comes to the city that could help students. He is up for re-election this Spring. Vote for anyone but Roy Nosek!

I agree w/ Jason. Everyone get out and vote and DO NOT vote for Nosek. The students of Whitewater that he hates so much have the power to get that a** out of office. Maybe he should have thought twice about pissing the entire student body off.

Nosek represents a specific district in Whitewater (District 3) so the entire student body would not have the opportunity to vote against him. Those that live in Regent / New Regent area would be in that district.

Nosek needs to go... he is ignorant... listen to the people that know what they are talking about...

District three is filled predominately with students. It will take those students voting in order to remove the ignorant Nosek from office. This is a small town, and students really can change the government if they actually vote. I find it to be an idiotic political move for Nosek to piss off such a huge percentage of those who now WILL NOT be voting for him in April. Here is a link to see what district you are in: http://www.ci.whitewater.wi.us/Your_Government/Elections/District_Map.pdf
Ward 3 and 4 make up District 3.

I find it strange that the local newspapers (besides the Royal Purple) seem to care little about this issue. In a previous issue of the Royal Purple a local resident tried to deny that the community dislikes students, but the lack of media coverage seems to speak for itself.

As horrible as it sounds, I think it will take someone else getting hit for the council to listen up--If that even got their attention.

Perhaps we should prove to Nosek that we are not ignorant children and do some academic work on this problem. Let's send out surveys to local citizens for instance, or analyze the crossings ourselves? If the student body shows up at a city council meeting with scientific proof that something needs to change perhaps Nosek will no longer talk down to us and tell us that crossing buttons are "neat" as if we were four.

I am a former student who is a community memeber now. I am always backing the University and would be happy to distribute surveys to people at work (I work at First Citizens State Bank) and elsewhere. My email is moconnell@firstcitizensww.com. Let me know if you get anything started or keep me updated with the situation.
A website? Maybe a group on facebook?

The comment Nosek makes about students "not being smart enough" is a ridiculous reason for not putting up barriers. I think barriers are an excellent idea. They would prevent jaywalking which can be frustrating to drivers and they would allow a larger group of people to cross the street in the crosswalk safely. Students pay for Nosek's livelyhood and he should recognize that the University is the best asset to this community.

As someone who is pretty knowledgeable in this matter, there are a few things that need to be said. First of all, Roy has been a member of the Common Council since April 2007, when he barely beat a respected UW-Whitewater professor by two votes. If you look at the voter logs from those elections, the community section of District 3 came out to vote...the students did not. He has been making these statements since well before his election and has been making them ever since. It is up to all of us to stay informed of City of Whitewater issues, but unfortunately, not much has been done to keep students informed. I applaud the Royal Purple staff for attending Common Council meetings more and informing the students of the issues that have been going since well before my election.

It doesn't look like a bad thing as far as I can see. Looks like it would fit this intersection well...

Now if they can make the button easier to press, then someone like Mike may actually be able to use this.
