A McGraw Hall computer lab will get a makeover during winter break in preparation for a new degree program being introduced next fall. Mary Jo deMeza, director of iCIT, said McGraw 127 is a teaching lab that is being converted for use by the Media, Arts, and Game Development program in the Communications Department. "The program will be using a combination of new iMac computers as well as some existing Macintosh computers already owned by the College to allow classes of up to 20 students in the ... lab," deMeza said. Elena Bertozzi, assistant professor of communication, said she came to UW-Whitewater to begin game development courses and the dedicated lab is a necessary improvement in the program. "Right now anytime we do the web design in class that is part of the curriculum already, we're using the lab downstairs in McGraw or across campus in various places because we don't have the software and equipment that we need in any given place to be able to teach our classes," she said. "So by having this lab, we'll have a dedicated lab that's just for the MAGD program. So we'll be able to have all of our core classes take place in this lab." Bertozzi said she and other instructors will be putting together curricular forms during winter break to launch the program in fall 2010. "People are very excited about the possibilities," she said.
