Whitewater resident and board member for the Whitewater Arts Alliance Dawn Hunter will be the featured artist in the Eclectic Works Exhibit. Hunter, 64, is an award winning artist who has spent the last 44 years living in Whitewater. She was an elementary teacher for most of her life before retiring in 2002. Hunter said this gave her the opportunity to focus more on her artwork, and she has been featured in many shows around the area in the past few years. "I have been able to make my work more professional since being retired," Hunter said. "I've appeared in shows in Janesville and Fort Atkinson, but this will be the first time where I'm the only artist featured." Hunter recently won a Wisconsin Regional Arts Program Award for one of her watercolor collages which was displayed at the Crossman Gallery last summer.

The word "eclectic" means to be composed of elements drawn from different sources. This is a perfect definition of Hunter's exhibit, as many different art forms and mediums will be on display. These mediums include photography, collages, watercolor, acrylic, and pop-can art.

"I call the 'pop-can art' the new 'green art'," Hunter said. "I take pop cans, cut them apart, and take the colored pieces and create a composition on insulation blueboard by nailing the pop can pieces to the blueboard." Assistant University Center Director Kim Adams said she is very excited to have a talented local artist featured in an exhibit like this. "Dawn is a very talented artist and students can learn from her various styles and techniques," assistant University Center director Kim Adams said. "I think it's important for them to be exposed to different art forms and mediums, which is one of the big reasons why we chose Dawn to be featured in this exhibit." The exhibit opens tomorrow and will be on display until Dec. 11.
