The 3rd annual Sun Prairie Blues Fest, a festival that features some of the top blues artists from Wisconsin and the U.S., is being held Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 at Angell Park.
“We brought in some acts who have been around for a while, but we also brought in some who are newer to the blues scene,” festival coordinator John Weishar said. “That’s why the show’s theme is ‘something old and something new.’ We brought in Magic Slim, who is over 70, but we also have young musicians like Tallan Latz in this year’s lineup.”
Latz is a 10-year-old blues guitarist from Elkhorn, Wis., who has frequented national news in the past few years. Some of the shows Latz has appeared on are “America’s Got Talent,” ABC’s “The Morning Show,” and CBS’ “The Early Show.”
“It’s really exciting that we could get someone as highly touted as Tallan to come to this year’s festival,” Weishar said. “He, along with the artist Sequoia, are the two younger talents that we have at this year’s festival.”
The Sun Prairie Lions Club will host the festival, which features six artists in all. Weishar said he expects a very good crowd this year, with hopefully around 2,000 people in attendance.
“The weather is supposed to be great, the music is even better than the past two years, so we expect a lot of people to come,” Weishar said. “We had around 1,500 show up last year, so I’m really excited to see if we can break that this year.”
John Zisch, who is in charge of the beer sales at the festival, said the popularity of the festival seems to be on the rise, so he expects this year to be better than the past two.
“Even the first year, we really hit the ground running,” Zisch said. “We turned a profit the first year, last year went better, and we’re hoping that this year will be even better.”
Along with the music, spectators will also be treated to a variety of food and beverages at Angell Park.
Admission for the festival is $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Tickets are available through the event Web site, www.spbluesfest.com, Madison and Sun Prairie Park Bank Locations, Beans n’ Cream Coffeehouse locations and the Cannery Wine & Spirits in Sun Prairie.
