Start with some "topical humor," mix in "past experiences" and "stories growing up in rural Idaho," and then add a hint of "bizarre" and what do you get? You've created a rare, but delicious comedian by the name of Dan Cummins who will be performing at the DownUnder in the University Center, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. Born and raised in Riggins, Idaho, Dan Cummins has come a long way from working at a local gym. His first break came in 2005 which landed him a performance in the New Faces show at the Montreal Comedy Festival, which lead to his appearances on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Comedy Central's Live at Gotham. He now has his own half hour special on Comedy Central and will be taping his first one hour special at the Bing Crosby Theatre in Spokane, Wash., which will be debuting in early 2010 on Comedy Central. "We got him to come to Whitewater because we saw him at NACA, the place to see all different artists who would come to colleges and perform, and he was hilarious!" Kate Buckner, a member of Student Entertainment Awareness League said. "We knew students would love him and would have a great time at his show!" Along with his specials, Cummins does a lot of comedy for college campuses. In 2009 alone, he has booked over 80 colleges to perform at. He was the most requested comedian for college campuses in 2007 and 2008. With his unexpected punch lines, vivid imagination and ability to write memorable comedy bits, the line between Cummins and other comedians continues to broaden every day. His "Squirrelador" joke is a prime example of memorable comedy, in which he presents the idea of breeding a squirrel and a labrador to create one sweet, hybrid pet. It become one of the most watched bits from the 2008 season of Comedy Central Presents to be previewed on the network's Web site. Soft served with a side of ingenuity, Dan Cummins will be a great kickoff performance for the DownUnder this semester. "It's going to be great! They are some really funny people, and everyone should come out for the fun!"
