After traveling to Illinois and New Jersey in the past few weeks, the women's bowling team looks to stay close to home this weekend, and will host the Warhawk Open Saturday and Sunday.

Even though it's a home meet, it will be held in Madison this Saturday with times to be announced.

The 'Hawks opened their season on Oct. 24, participating in the ISPBA/Kegel Classic in Addison, Ill., placing seventh out of a field of 23 teams.

Led by junior Kayla Schmidt, the 'Hawks cruised through day one, advancing to the elimination round.

Schmidt led the 'Hawks with a 1,131 pin total, good for 11th place out of 155 bowlers.

Junior Heather Kowalski rolled a 226, good for the 'Hawks top game of the tourney.

Sophomore Sarah Stettner was the only 'Hawk to record two games over 200, with a 207 and a 204. Junior Ashley Keclik bowled the top series, with a 568.

With only four days rest, the 'Hawks traveled to Elmwood Park, N.J., this past weekend to participate in the FDU Fright Knight Invite, a three day event.

The 'Hawks started well after day one, placing fourth, but dropped to eighth on the third and final day.

Schmidt once again led the 'Hawks, placing eighth individually. She has a 189.50 average for the season, currently the highest on the team.

At the tournament, the 'Hawks bowled their second highest team game score of the year with a 903 in their fourth match on Saturday.

The team travels all around the nation, so hosting a home meet is beneficial. The 'Hawks host another home tournament in February, and the season goes all the way up to April.

The season looks to be a good one as they are ranked 16th in the preseason, according to the National Tenpins Coaches Association poll.

This year's team is a young one and will rely heavily on its seven freshmen along with leadership from it two seniors, but results thus far indicate the team is headed in the right direction.
