While the men's and women's basketball team's seasons ended earlier than anticipated, the individual awards for Myles McKay and Tiffany Morton have not stopped.
McKay and Morton, who both earned first team all-conference and first team all-region honors, ended their senior seasons as D3hoops.com All-Americans.
Morton was a honorable mention All-American while McKay was named a second team All-American.
"It means a lot, but it wouldn't mean anything without a great team around me," McKay said.
After earning all-WIAC honors last season, McKay was the catalyst in helping the 'Hawks advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Menomonee Falls graduate scored 585 points, the ninth-highest single season total in UW-Whitewater history and led the WIAC with a 20.2 scoring average.
He was also ranked in the top 10 in the WIAC for total rebounds at 5.7 and free throw percentage at 84.7 percent. Along with displaying his shooting touch at 51.3 percent, McKay finished fourth in the conference with 1.72 steals per game.
"Myles had a great year and it is very well deserving," head coach Pat Miller said. "It's a tribute to how focused he was in the offseason."
McKay, who came to UW-Whitewater after transferring from UW-Milwaukee, played in all 58 games in two years and started 54 of them.
Although he became the go-to scorer this season, McKay was often the second or third scoring option behind third team All-American Matt Goodwin and all-WIAC forward Rob Perry last year.
And after averaging 14 points per game and shooting 45.7 percent from the field, McKay improved in each offensive category this season.
"I was always okay, but even at the Division I level, I was never spectacular," McKay said. "I kept working and knew I had it in me."
In the first round of the NCAA tournament against Elmhurst College, McKay scored 25 of his game-high 30 points in the first half and finished 12-of-23 in the 'Hawks' overtime win.
"At the end of last year he was becoming more comfortable," Miller said. "He sensed that he could take that next step. It shows that people who commit themselves are prepared well for big games."
Morton, who transferred from UWM prior to the 2006-07 season, also helped the women's team become a national contender.
She averaged 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game and is the third player in UW-Whitewater history to average a double-double. Morton also holds the school record with 28 double-doubles.
Morton was a fourth-team D3hoops.com All-American during the 2007-08 season.
