Led by senior Chelsea Davis, the women's golf team finished second at the WIAC championships at the Northern Bay Golf Resort and Marina in Arkdale, Wis.

UW-Whitewater finished 42 strokes behind first-place UW-Eau Claire.

The Warhawks trailed the Blugolds after day one, and despite solid performances by Davis and her teammates, the team was unable to improve its position.

After having a banner year, the 'Hawks had three golfers finish in the top 10 individually.

Davis finished fifth overall. She was in third place after a 78 on day one of competition. Davis struggled on day two, however, shooting an 86, but rebounded in the final round with an 81.

Giana Tenuta also made a strong showing for the 'Hawks, tying for sixth after shooting rounds of 84, 82 and 83.

"The course was good for me because it wasn't too long and only had a few holes that gave me some trouble," Tenuta said. "It was a challenge to play because temperatures got very low."

Sophomore Amy Peters also finished in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish with rounds of 82, 83 and 85.

With the season now complete, the 'Hawks can look back at their accomplishments that include: three tournament championships over the course of four days a couple weeks ago.

UW-Whitewater also took second place three times. Six golfers finished the season with averages in the 80s.

"The seniors are very successful, accomplished a lot in the classroom and on the course, and will walk away winners in life," head coach Bret Weber said.

While the fall season is complete, the team will continue its season in the spring.

"I am going to just try my best to keep swinging throughout the winter, so I can come back strong in the spring," Peters said.

And after placing so high in many competitions this season, Weber wants to challenge his team as they enter the off-season. "We're going to try to pick out the right tournaments," Weber said. "One including where they pick out the top 20-25 teams in the nation."
